Caistor Centre, Ontario – Cory Turner rode a hot streak into the 2017 edition of the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals with four consecutive top-five finishes entering Canada’s highest-paying 360 Sprint Car race. It was a career night for Cory who qualified directly into the 35-lap, $12,000 Feature from his heat race for the first time.

“Our group was really tough,” Turner said. “We had four of the top-six qualifiers in my group. We had Sam Hefertepe, Carson Macedo, Jared Horstman and Mitch Brown in it.”

“Saturday night we were good in time trials,” Turner continued. “I just needed more power. The car was really good with our slick track engine in it. We just needed a little more. I caught the invert and started on the pole of the heat race. We finished third and made the Nationals through the heat race and that’s the first time I’ve ever done that.”

Come Feature time for Turner’s biggest race of the year, the KT Tobacco/Silo Wireless No. 97 had early shock problems that inhibited his effort.

“We had a little mechanical failure in the A-Main,” Turner explained. “Our right-front shock went bad and I was literally carrying the right-front tire down the straightaway and then it would get over on it hard in the corners and I felt like I was going to dump it. I stayed out until the first caution on lap 11 and then I parked it two laps later.”

While the result wasn’t what Turner wanted, he was certainly happy with his effort and how he ran prior to the issue. Leading into the Nationals, Turner was on his hottest streak of the season. He earned a pair of second-place finishes at Brighton Speedway during the Labour Day Classic weekend.

“We had a shot to win both of them,” Turner said. “The first one I probably would have won had it gone green. Jake Brown got by me on the start and I got back by him in lapped traffic and kind of checked out. Then we had a caution with about eight to go and he got around to him. On Sunday, we went 16th to 2nd so we were pretty ecstatic about that.”

A week later in the final weekly event at Ohsweken, Turner earned his third-straight second-place finish before continuing his top-five streak with the Southern Ontario Sprints at Merrittville the following night on September 9.

“We ran second the next night at Ohsweken. We had that one pretty much in the bag and the engine started laying down,” Turner explained. “Then we ran fifth at Merrittville before the Nationals, so we’ve been going good lately.”

Turner was quick to credit his dedicated supporting cast for the streak of impressive finishes to begin the month of September. With a handful of races still remaining, Turner has already established new career benchmarks for a single season.

“I have to give a special thanks to our partners and my crew,” Turner said. “We’re had an excellent year so far. We really hit our stride here of late. We have a couple of races left here, but 2017 is statistically our best year yet. I’m pretty happy with that.”

Turner still has a few races ahead on his 2017 schedule, including a trip to Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, NY this Friday night for the $5,000-to-win Outlaw Fall Nationals. For additional event information, visit www.outlawspeedwayllc.com.
